The Jesus Model 2: How to pray. (Matthew 6: 6-13) "But whenever you pray..." Step 1:- "go into your room, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret." It is another way of saying your prayer must come from your heart. This means even without uttering a word "...your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you." Remember Hannah: answered prayers do not depend on noise making. (1 Samuel 1: 10-13) Step 2:- "When you pray, do not babble repetitiously like the Gentiles, because they think that by their many words they will be heard." Simply put: your repetitiveness does not change the heart of God, "...for your Father knows what you need before you ask him." especially when you pray out of His context; "you ask and do not receive because you ask wrongly, so you can spend it on your passions." (James 4: 3) However, do not confuse persistence with repetition. (see James 5: 16) Step 3:- "So pray this way: Our Father in heaven, may your name be honored..." Honouring God brings His hands, presence and glory. Remember Abel Noah, Abraham, David, Solomon and Jesus Christ. (see Genesis 3: 4; 8: 20-22; 18: 1-15; 1 Samuel 17: 45-47, 1 Kings 8 & John 11: 41-44) "...may your kingdom come, may your will be done on earth as it is in heaven." The key to receiving from God is to do His Holy will. (Matthew 6: 33) "Give us today our daily bread..." "...in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God." (Philippians 4: 6, Matthew 7: 7) "... and forgive us our debts, as we ourselves have forgiven our debtors." {see the previous and next note fore more insight} "...And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one." This means claiming the victory of Jesus Christ over our adversary, Satan. "... in the world you have tribulations; but cheer up! I have overcome the world." "Jesus said, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven... I have given you authority to tread on snakes and scorpions and on the full force of the enemy, and nothing will hurt you"." (John 16: 33, Luke 10: 18-18, Ephesians 6: 12) Jesus said: "Whatever you make a request for in prayer, have faith that it has been given to you, and you will have it." (Mark 11: 24, 21: 21-22) Faith is the vehicle the gets our prayers to the heart of God and the answers back to us. Stay blessed and pray in faith, always.
