The Jewish Federations of North America Rabbinic Cabinet has asked that this Shabbat, be a Shabbat of Solidarity, in response to the horrific terrorist attack at Har Nof Synagogue in Jerusalem this past week. Please share the message and prayer offered by JFNAs Rabbinic Cabinet. A Shabbat of Solidarity As a sign of solidarity, we in the Rabbinic Cabinet are urging all Jews, from all the streams, to attend the synagogue of their choice this Shabbat. This campaign, will affirm that the synagogue is the sanctuary of the people of Israel and that it is a safe and holy place for all Jews to gather. Please send this message to all of your synagogue members through whatever communication vehicle you may regularly use. A Suggested prayer for this Shabbat in synagogue Oh God, as we gather in our synagogues for Shabbat we are reminded once again of the Jewish teaching Kol Yisrael arevim zeh bah zeh, all Jews are responsible and linked one with the other. As Jews of faith, we raise our voices of anguish to You, Oh God, and to all who might hear Your word of peace,. We pray to You for justice and call out to all individuals of good will, in condemnation of the recent act of terror perpetrated in a synagogue in Jerusalem. There can be no justification for the murder of innocents, which tramples on the sacredness of human life, especially in a venue of peace and love. , And so we pray for a true Shabbat Shalom, a Sabbath of peace wherein the use of inflammatory language will cease to be and that the rhetoric of hate will be transformed into words and deeds of love and kindness. On Shabbat we are reminded that Judaism teaches us that every human being is created Btzelem Elohim, in the image of God. And so, we pray that You, Oh God, will grant us the strength to honor You as our Creator, by ensuring that religion serves not as a weapon but rather as a sacred vehicle that heals and uplifts human life. Even in the face of tragedy and terror, on this Shabbat let us heed the words of the Prophet Jeremiah, who proclaimed: There is hope for thy future. (31:16) Thus while we offer words of prayer and condolences to the grief stricken families of the victims of this attack, let us lift up our prayers to You, the God of our fathers and mothers, so that all humanity will witness the fulfillment of Jeremiahs words and that a true Shabbat Shalom will descend on Jerusalem and all of Israel. Amen
