The Joe Kinnear era as Newcastle’s Director of Football has - TopicsExpress

The Joe Kinnear era as Newcastle’s Director of Football has started, and while we seem to have missed out on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, one of our dependable if not great players at the club – James Perch, has officially singed for Wigan Athletic. Perch was signed by Chris Hughton from Nottingham Forest in July of 2010 for around £1M, and in his three seasons on Tyneside he made 81 appearances with one goal. James will be a terrific signing for Wigan, and he had this to say on their web-site today: “It feels great to be here with a new challenge ahead of me, and I’m very excited at getting that started,” “The prospect of helping to get the team promoted was really appealing and I can’t wait to meet the rest of the boys and get started.” “I think Wigan Athletic is a great club and after speaking with the manager, his ambition and determination to take the club back to the Premier League where it belongs is something I wanted to be a part of.” It’s important to remember that in March of this year Alan Pardew wanted to extend James’ contract, which would have ran out next summer, but Mike Ashley said no. So there’s no doubt that Alan’s power at Newcastle has been cut, not to mention he now has to work for a guy like Joe Kinnear – and that cannot be pleasant – although Joe may come out soon and say he’s the best man to work for in all of football. James had a tough first season on Tyneside, but he then played very well for Newcastle over the last two years under Alan Pardew, and proved he was a valuable and dependable member of the squad.
