The John Evans Family of Frederick County, Virginia This is a research paper based on primary evidence that I did not publish or distribute. Much work and time went into this short account. It is based on the Evans family Bible. The family lived on both sides of Timber Ridge. Pictures are omitted here. John Evans was born in 1770 in Maryland and died March 28, 1850 in Frederick County, Virginia. John is buried in the Bethel (Trone) Cemetery on Timber Ridge in Frederick County. He married Frances Hardesty, who was born circa 1786 in Washington County, Maryland and died Sept. 12, 1864 in Peoria County, Illinois. Frances moved to Peoria County after her husband died, and was living with her son Alexander Evans when the US Census was taken in 1860. She is buried in the Princeville Township Cemetery. Children of John and Frances (Hardesty) Evans were: 1. James Evans was born on Oct. 30, 1808 in Hagerstown, Maryland and died April 30, 1881, in Lafayette, Bates County, Missouri. He married Martha McKee on Oct. 13, 1836, in Frederick County, Virginia. Martha was born circa 1818 and died Aug. 20, 1858 2. Elizabeth Ann Evans was born Jan. 7, 1811 in Hagerstown, Maryland and died in Illinois on Jan. 21, 1870. She married Bartholomew McKee, son of Robert and Jane (Cather) McKee Jr., May 4, 1837, in Frederick County, Virginia. Bartholomew was born April 10, 1799 and died in November 1870. They emigrated from Frederick County to Princeville, Illinois, March 19, 1855, where he farmed and ran a blacksmith shop. They had at least ten children. This Bartholomew McKee has been confused with two other persons with the same name. 3. Susan Mary Evans was born Feb. 15, 1812 in Frederick County, Virginia, and died Sept. 13, 1878, in Marshall County, Illinois. She married James Harrison, son of Robert and Elizabeth (Brigham) Harrison, Sept. 13, 1832, in Berkeley County, Virginia. 4. Ameliler Evans was born March 17, 1815, probably in Berkeley County, and died Dec. 24, 1897, in Stark County, Illinois. She married Henry M. Rogers, son of William and Eleanor Rogers, Dec. 19, 1844, in Peoria County, Illinois. 5. Priscilla Evans was born June 11, 1817 in Frederick County, and died Nov. 22, 1855, in Coles County, Illinois while engaged in migration to Missouri. She married David McKee, son of Robert and Elizabeth (McMorris) McKee, April 1, 1847, in Frederick County. After her death, David allegedly moved to Iowa. 6. Margaret Ann Evans was born July 10, 1819 in Frederick County, and died Dec. 29, 1880, in Johnson County, Missouri. She married John Dukes, March 17, 1853, in Peoria County, Illinois. 7. John Richard Evans was born Jan. 1, 1822 in Frederick County, and believed to have died May 19, 1900, in Frederick County, Virginia. He married Margaret Milhorn, Dec. 6, 1849, in Frederick County. She was born May 19, 1931. They had at least three children: daughter Mary Evans married James F. Smith; son John E. Evans married Emma M. Samsell; and daughter Sarah J. Evans married Joseph Pifer. 8. Sarah Evans was born Feb. 14, 1824 in Frederick County, and died Jan. 28, 1907, in Princeville, Illinois. She married Richard Harden, Oct. 31, 1855, in Peoria County, Illinois. Richard was born in 1822 and died in 1886. Both are buried in the Princeville Township Cemetery. 9. Lydia Evans was born Sept. 3, 1826 and died in infancy, in Berkeley County, Virginia. 10. William Walter Evans was born Oct. 24, 1829 in Frederick County, and died March 13, 1859, in Peoria County, Illinois. He is buried in the Princeville Township Cemetery. He married Mary Kackley, daughter of Elias and Mary (Anderson) Kackley, Nov. 4, 1858. 11. Alexander Evans was born May 28, 1834 in Frederick County, and died July 26, 1910, at Canon City, Colorado. He married Mary (Kackley) Evans, daughter of Elias Kackley, March 3, 1866, in Peoria County, Illinois. Alexander was a farmer.
