The Jordan Center for Persian Studies will host four speakers/performers (Nov. 17-20th) at the Humanities Gateway 1030/1010 in the following order: Nov. 17th: Dr. Leonard Lewisohn: “The Sufi Tradition and the Life, Times and Poetry of Jalal al-Din Rumi” One of the foremost scholars in the study of Sufi literature and Mawlavi and the editor of the Mawlana Rumi Review, the only journal dedicated to this great Persian poet and mystic. Nov. 18th: Dr. Jane Lewishon: “The Rise and Fall of Lalehzar, Cultural Centre of Tehran in the Mid20-th Century” Director of the important Golha Project and serious scholar of Persian music will discuss the traditional music of Tehran which was centered in Lalehzar Nov. 19th: Ms. Sara Mashayekh: “The Tragedy of Rostam & Sohrab” This is a performance in the tradition of Pardehkhani, where the story of the Iranian hero Rostam and his son, Sohrab in the Shahnameh is performed Nov. 20th: Dr. Khodadad Rezakhani: “Memories of Decline: The Islamic Conquests of Sasanian Iran and Modern Historiography” The talk is about the reasons for which the Sasanian Empire collapsed and how modern historians have approached this topic in the twentieth century All four talks are free and open to the public The fabulous posters are the work of professional artists, in order by: Pouya Jahanshahi (Rumi); Kourosh Beigpour (Lalehzar); Delbar Shabaz & Sam Anvari / Sam Arts Studio (Rostam); and Scherwin Faridnejad (Sasanian) The Jordan Center wishes to thank them
