The Kadena Special Olympics is in dire need of volunteers for Game Day on 8 November. You can make a difference in the life of a special needs athlete. Visit SpecialOlympicsKadena to learn more and signup. The event will only be successful if you volunteer. KSO utilizes more than 2,500 volunteers on game day, supporting nearly 1,000 athletes and 1,500 family members. This is a wonderful way to give back to your community and all volunteers will receive a Letter of Appreciation. Were looking for Athlete Buddies, Cheerers and others. What is an Athlete Buddy? An Athlete Buddy is an escort for an athlete and their family. You are an ambassador for the military and will be responsible for escorting your athlete and their family to and from events. You will ensure they receive lunch. Most importantly you will be assigned your athlete for the ENTIRE activity day and cannot leave them alone under any circumstance. You are the primary cheerleader for your athlete. Minimum age is 15 years old. Athlete Buddies should wear comfortable, conservative clothes. What is a Cheerer? As a cheerer, you are an ambassador for the military. You will be expected to cheer for the athletes at your assigned event. Assignments will be given by the sports reps the morning of the games after registration. The most important part of being a cheerer is enthusiasm! Thumbs up, smiles and high fives go a long way! After your event you will be free to go or move to any other event that you like. The more cheerers at an event the merrier! Go online and sign up today. --GySgt Griffin
