The Last Heritage !! 14th century saw a sea change in socio - economic conditions of the people of Kashmir, besides the change of religion from Hinduism to Islam the economic change also transformed their lives for better. The credit to all this goes to the Muslim Saint Mir Sayyid Ali Hamadani (RA) who all the way from Persia came to Kashmir along with 1200 Muslim scholars, artists, artisans and tradesmen to teach the people tenets of Islam and also different trades. He was one of the principal historical figures who shaped the culture of Kashmir; both architecturally and also through the flourishing of arts and crafts. The skills and know-how he brought gave rise to an entire industry, among all different trades the making of Rose Water and other Herbs water flourished at Khanqahe Mohalla in main city center of Srinagar just outside the Mosque of Shahe Hamda. This art of making rose water is taken over by machines now and most of it is imported now from other states to Kashmir. During my recent visit to this part of city I went to see the last family of Kozgars who are the only ones now to process the rose water by primitive techniques, I met Abdul Aziz Nooristani also known as Kozghar, his family has come from Nooristan in Persia to Kashmir with Hazrat Amir Kabir (RA) and introduced making of rose water in Kashmir, he also narrated and shared many stories of his family and their related trade. It was a wonderful meeting with Mr.Abdul Aziz Nooristan, may God bless him. Pics.RT
