The Legend of Zelda - A Link to my Past The year was 1986. The Legend of Zelda was released into the United States of America... it was the first video game I ever laid eyes on and Ill probably think about it many years from now as I lay dying somewhere. A little over a decade after that game was released (in 1998), the world saw The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time for the first time. It delivered on nearly all levels in a way games rarely do. It was the game that showed what the N64 could do (Stock, no expansion pack). It had a full world where if you can see it you can go there. It was new, fresh... and frankly, would go on to influence so many games in this 3D era that its impossible to list. It also holds a special place in my heart because it was the first time I was able to own a Zelda gold cart of my own (the NES version was my older brothers... and the SNES got only a grey cart Zelda release). https://youtube/watch?v=CtMllWsML5M 2008 came and went, and Ill admit - My interest in Zelda has declined at this point. I can only play so many different takes on Ocarina of Time and sit through so many unknown anime-charged-with-Japanese mannerisms and grunts in a supposed fantasy world telling me exactly where to go and how to do things before the original Press Start to Adventure appeal was lost In the 2000s... Zelda became a story and not an adventure. The Legend of Zelda has lost its way. Halfway through the Two-Thousand Teens (2010s) we are met with an exciting new trailer for a new Legend of Zelda game on the new Nintendo console... and I still get those chills I got when I was just four years old. Then I hear that they are looking to return the series to its exploration-based roots. Then I see just how massive that world is, and how stunningly its rendered and I realize: Could this be the redeemer for Zelda? Could this be the game that overshadows the uber-gritty generic First Person Shooters that literally every other console touts as a premiere experience for their console? Theres only one way to tell. The day my disc arrives in the mail and the second I hit Start on the save game select screen. If I see anything but a horizontal barn door wipe that reveals Link standing in the middle of a fully unlocked Hyrule Field... Ill be disappointed. I dont need tutorials, I dont need the voice of God or some spirit gimmick telling me to Look out for danger - Ive done this dance before, Junior. Danger is why Im here. - https://youtube/watch?v=XZmxvig1dXE
