The Lesachtal - a place oft visited by Mauthners and by Dad in particular This year one of our Cousins from Australia made a stop on her way back to OZ specifically to visit Mauthen, as like so many of the family in Australia, she want to seen where U. Frank lived and why it was so important to him. Part of Dads early life was spent visit the Lesachtal either for summer farm holidays as a boy with his siblings or when he worked at the village butchers collecting animals for business. He did all that on foot and often in day. Starting before light and I suspect finishing in some instances well after light. We made a side trip, organised by our dear friends, Gitti & Todd, from Get Local Tours, to the Lesachtal as far as Maria Luggau. We saw a series of 5 wonderful old mills that had been saved from the many that used to be in the valley. On the tour of the 5 mills, given by a wonderful lady called Brigitte, we where suppose to have seen a video on the mills, Due to unforeseen circumstances of an old lock falling to work, we didnt. I found this one and though it is in German, for Cousin Anne and anyone else interested in a retro look of a lovely part of Southern Austria it is worth it. I think Dad would have loved ti have seen it. Given its age I suspect he may have already seen it as a youth.
