The Liberia Fistula Project has successfully completed surgical work on sixteen fistula patients. Fistula is the constant flow of urine and stood from a female and is caused as a result of long labor during delivery. Liberia Fistula Program Coordinator, Dr. John Mulbah said all of the survivals came from Bong, Nimba, Grand Bassa and Lofa counties . Dr. Mulbah said, the females were affected with fistula as a result of prolong labor during delivery something which he said can be attributed to lack of health facilities and trained birth attendance in leeward counties . He said the fistula survivals were taught several live skill including tailoring , pastry, cosmology and provide hundred United States dollars as start-up package to the sixteen fistula survivals. Speaking during the gradation of the fistula survivals at the Phebe Hospital in Bong County over the weekend, Dr. Mulbah called for a halt to stigmatization against people falling prey to fistula.Dr. Mulbah also said since the launched of the fistula project one thousand fistula patients underwent successful surgery and they were reintegrated into society. He lauded UNFPA with support from Zonta International including government for making fistula surgical operations free and providing skills training for the fistula survival.
