The Linthicums and Real Estate - Twin Oaks Mansion. Both Helen and John Charles Linthicum owed much of their wealth to the real estate industry. Helen inherited property from her father, a wealthy doctor in Saratoga Springs New York. She later inherited one of Baltimores largest collection of ground rents and a townhouse from her first husband Gabriel Clark. John Charles built a real estate company with his brothers and l later inherited, via the Twin Oaks Deed, a large mansion in Linthicum Heights which the Linthicums utilized as a summer home and site for important meetings and parties. When Charles died his will moved ahead the development of his properties in the area known as North Linthicum. The accumulation of land by the Linthicum farmers and then speculation in the early 20th century helped to shape the region as it is known today. The subdivision and sale of Linthicum properties is still going on. Little of the old Twin Oaks properties remains intact its lawns and farmland have been transformed to a bedroom suburb. Twin Oaks mansion is no longer owned by the Linthicum family.
