The Liverpool Echo Newss editor asks, is the Work Programme really - TopicsExpress

The Liverpool Echo Newss editor asks, is the Work Programme really working? The great French-Russian artist, Marc Chagall, once said: “Work isn’t to make money. You work to justify life.” It’s doubtful anyone takes themselves more seriously than a Franco-Russian artist. And it seems that our government takes Chagall pretty seriously, too. Certainly Messrs David Cameron, George Osborne and Iain Duncan Smith concur that work isn’t to make money - not for the #unemployed, at least, and they apparently need to justify their existence by #WorkingForNothing. I find it totally incredible that 10 Downing Street would put the profits of a private company over the public’s right to get to choose whether or not it wants to aid and abet profiteers of what some would call forced or #SlaveLabour. The pathetic excuse I got back from the DWP was that, if these firms were undermined, it would undermine the Work Programme. Anyone would think that the whole #economy of Britain would crash around our ears if we weren’t willing to tolerate the #exploitation of the #disadvantaged.
