The Lobelia tribe is a lot of fun. It has many xeric (drought thriving or short rainy season, long dry season thriving plants) and non-xeric plants, including some pretty, dense growing dry shade (a holy grail for gardeners in subtropical and temperature, continental climates) flowering plants! The Lobelia Haleakala āhinahina (Hawaiin) and scientific: Argyroxiphium sandwicense subsp. macrocephalum. It is a relatively long lived multi-year annual. It grows slowly and can live for up to 50 years before producing a tall flower spike, much like the unrelated Agave family, and then dying after seed has been set.
