~The Lonely Moose~ Once on a time, a lonely moose his forest haunts forsook and came by chance to wander the streets of Penacook. The people scurried from his path--he looked menacing but he just trotted past them, as scornful as a king. With seeming flaunt of human law he munched at shrub and lawn, shook his great antlers and his tail and then proceeded on. He heard the townsfolk saying that his mind was in a mist, that certainly he needed a moose psychiatrist. But to all such talk he was heedless, to his critics made no bows, but hurried instead to the river bank to graze among the cows. Here he felt in his proper sphere; the cows received him kindly, but those nasty conservation men would not leave things so merry. They came and shot him with drugged darts that knocked him down unconscious, then loaded him into a truck and dumped him back in the forest. The moral is: if youre a moose, however kind and gentle, dont try to make a polite call on that funny breed called People (written by Clarence Poulin of Penacook N.H.)
