The Lord does not delay and is not tardy or slow about what He - TopicsExpress

The Lord does not delay and is not tardy or slow about what He promises, according to some people’s conception of slowness, but He is long-suffering (extraordinarily patient) toward you, not desiring that any should perish, but that all should turn to repentance. While you wait and earnestly long for (expect and hasten) the coming of the day of God by reason of which the flaming heavens will be dissolved, and the [material] elements [of the universe] will flare and melt with fire? 2 Peter 3:9,12 In this craziness that we are living in have you every thought if this could be the year. What if on God’s eschatology calendar He chose this year as the time for the completion of His Son’s work of assembling to Himself a people for God’s possession. What if this year the Church will reach its evangelistic consummation and Christ will be sent to meet the last generation of His Bride face to face. Look around at this world and think is it possible. When I think along these lines I am reminded that Jesus’ emphatic and repeated emphasis on no one knowing the date or time of His return was not given to diminish His disciples’ expectation, it was given to increase their expectation. I believe that His strategic ambiguity was not to lull His people into inactivity, it was meant to motivate them to work at church growth as though this could be the very week! Clearly God wants us to always be ready and expectant of His return! In the passage above I believe that Peter even hints to the fact that we can “expect and hasten” the day of Christ’s return as we seek to bring just one more life to the place of repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. As we prepare for next season may we embark on another great season of ministry, mindful that this could be the year. SELAH!
