The Lower Sixth attended the Learn2live presentation at Plymouth - TopicsExpress

The Lower Sixth attended the Learn2live presentation at Plymouth Pavilions this week. This presentation is organised in partnership by Plymouth City, Devon County, Torbay and Cornwall Councils, Devon and Cornwall Police, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, South Western Ambulance Services Trust, the Institute of Advanced Motorists and the Association of Professional Driving Instructors (South West). The presentation is for 16 - 24 year olds with the aim of reducing the number of young people involved in road traffic accidents. It is a hard hitting presentation and involves speakers including police officers, fire officers, family liaison teams who have dealt with road traffic accidents involving young people and parents who have endured the loss or serious injury of a child in a road accident. Learn2live aims to, ...enable young people to understand specific risks and consider the consequences of their actions. By encouraging them to make small changes to their behaviours and developing their skills and awareness, they are then able to make sensible safe choices with regard to their safety when travelling on the roads. The pupils and staff on the trip were all visibly moved by the speakers they listened to speaking about the most horrific moments of their lives with calm clarity. We have an enormous amount of respect for all the speakers who spoke at the presentation. Learn2 live has achieved its aim this week and has made 60 pupils from Mount Kelly stop and think.
