The MPO’s Carmen Festival kicks off with a ballet derived from Bizet’s beloved opera. In 1967 Russian composer Rodion Shchedrin created his own reworking of Carmen for his famous ballerina wife. The orchestration is startling to say the least: it omits all wind instruments but requires nearly 50 percussion instruments! Experience this exciting production from the 16 to 18 January.
