The Marigot Secondary School has paid tribute to Stratosphere Muzic artiste Marley “Mongstar” James, presenting him with a service award and token, in recognition of his efforts to promote Saint Lucia through his music. The school made the presentation on Monday, February 21, 2014 during a special assembly to start its Virtues Project. Following the presentation, Mongstar performed a mini-concert for the entire school, that included his hit songs “Glo-Ko-Ko” (2011); “Saint Lucia We Love” (2012) and “Nationality” (2013). A former student of the Babonneau Secondary School, Mongstar has a personal connection to the Marigot community where he grew up, and members of his family still reside. He is humbled by the tribute . He said it was unexpected. “I only started singing in 2010, the year I won the Piton Soca Starz Competition. To get recognised by a school I didn’t even attend so soon after makes me feel very proud and happy. It is something I will cherish and never forget,” he said. Mongstar accepted the service award one day after returning to Saint Lucia from a multi-city US tour, in observance of Saint Lucia’s 35th anniversary of Independence. He, along with Statosphere Muzic label mates Ricky T and Marie-Anne, will leave the island on Friday for Martinique, where they are scheduled to perform at events in celebration of Martinique Carnival.
