The Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women is hosting our eleventh annual Unsung Heroines of Massachusetts. The initiative will identify and honor extraordinary woman from across the Commonwealth. We are asking legislators to play a special role in the Unsung Heroine; we hope that you will partner with us to identify our 2014 class of Unsung Heroines. Who are Unsung Heroines? Thousands of women from every community of the state perform unheralded acts on a daily basis that make our homes, neighborhoods, cities, and towns better places to live. They are the Unsung Heroines who use their time, talent, spirit, and enthusiasm to enrich the lives of others. Past honorees have included educators, advocates, business women, and volunteers who have dedicated their work to bettering the lives of seniors, victims of violence, children, immigrants, and other vulnerable populations. They are the glue that keeps a community together. They are the spark that gets things started and gets things done. They care about other people and it shows. The MCSW respectfully requests that each legislator name one female constituent to represent her community and be honored as a 2014 Unsung Heroine. All Unsung Heroines will be invited to attend a ceremony on Thursday, May 29, 2014 from 1 4 p.m., in the Great Hall at the State House in Boston. We hope you can take time to help us recognize an Unsung Heroine in your community who has not yet been honored and who is not a family relation. To make a submission, please reply to this email before February 15 with the following information and include a 100-150 word description of your heroine, detailing why she is deserving of recognition. Legislator’s Name: Address: Town/City/Zip: District: Contact Phone #: Email address: Awardee’s Full Name (to be used for printed material): Home Address: Town/City/Zip: Phone Number: Email Address: Employer/Organization (if applicable): Town/City/Zip: Profession: City/Town to Be Recognized (i.e., home or work): Note that all information may be used publicly.
