The May 4th benefit for Carol Suchy is to help offset medical expenses incurred as the result of a snowmobile accident. Read Carols story below. Carol Suchy was in a snowmobiling accident on February 3, 2013 while on a trip with friends and family in Crane Lake, MN. On the last day of the trip, just after hitting the trails, Carol was involved in an accident which resulted in a severe back injury. First responders were called to the scene and Carol was flown by medevac to Essentia Health in Duluth, MN. Ultimately, the accident has caused paralysis from the hips down. At this point, it is still unclear if the paralysis will be permanent but Carol is determined to walk again. The past year has been challenging for the Suchy Family in many ways. Aside from hospital stays, rehab, home care, and chronic pain, adjusting to daily life in a wheelchair has been no easy task. The past year has included: • 62 days in the hospital and over 50 doctor appointments • 45 rehabilitation sessions • Purchasing a wheelchair – after trying out at least 8 chairs • Remodeled house to widen doorways, added 2 wheelchair lifts, and make wheelchair accessible • The purchase of a wheelchair van and Carol learning to drive it herself using hand controls • Hasn’t worked for a year and recently started a very aggressive, expensive rehab program To read more about how Carol is Totally Geared Towards Healing and Totally Hooked on Faith, visit her Caringbridge page at caringbridge.org/visit/carolsuchy
