The Meaning of the following term: Spirit of God Surat Al-Nisa 171: O People of the Scripture, do not commit excess in your religion or say about Allah except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, was but a messenger of Allah and His word which He directed to Mary and a soul [created at a command] from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers. And do not say, Three; desist – it is better for you. Indeed, Allah is but one God. Exalted is He above having a son. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And sufficient is Allah as Disposer of affairs. 172: Never would the Messiah disdain to be a servant of Allah, nor would the angels near [to Him]. And whoever disdains His worship and is arrogant – He will gather them to Himself altogether. 173:And as for those who believed and did righteous deeds, He will give them in full their rewards and grant them extra from His bounty. But as for those disdained and were arrogant, He will punish them with a painful punishment, and they will not find for themselves besides Allah any protector or helper. Meaning of the following words: 1- O People of the Scripture: this verse is pointing to the Christians. 2- do not commit excess in your religion: excessiveness means: being excessive in something. In view of the fact that Jesus (Peace be upon him) is a servant of Allah and His messenger, the Christians are so excessive in that matter since they claim that he is God. 3- The Messiah: Messiah is Jesus (Peace be upon him), and he was named as the Messiah, because he hadnt committed any sin at all. 4- and His word : His word means: the statement of Allah to him saying: Be and he was. 5- He directed to Mary: The word which Mary received was the saying of the Angels to her O Mary, indeed Allah gives you glad tidings of a word from Him, whose name will be the Messiah, Jesus.( Surah 3:45) Note: a word from Him means: a command from Allah –the word Be. 6- a soul [created at a command] from Him (Be and he was): Jesus (Peace be upon him) was created by Allah who predestined that Jesus (Peace be upon him) would be created by the blow of Jibril (Gabriel) into (the sleeves of) Maryams (Mary) shirt or garment, and thus she would conceive. 7- And sufficient is Allah as Disposer of affairs: Allah is The Witness, The Guardian. 8- Never would the Messiah disdain to be a servant of Allah: Jesus (pbuh) will never refuse submitting himself totally to Allah as His slave. 9- And whoever disdains His worship and is arrogant: It means those who refuse the idea of submitting themselves totally to Allah as His slaves, and they feel pride and self-admiration against Allah’s commands. 10- and they will not find for themselves besides Allah any protector or helper: On the Day of Judgment the Christians will not find any protector to defend them. And there would be no helper who can prevent them from being tortured in the Hell-Fire. Explanation of the Verses: Allah the Almighty called the Christians O People of the Scripture: Scripture means the Gospel. Allah the Almighty ordered the Christians to stop being excessive in their religion such as being monastic and not getting married. As well as other heresies they have invented. Allah also ordered the Christians to tell the truth regarding Jesus Christ (Peace be upon him): 1- Jesus (pbuh) was a messenger sent by Allah 2- And His Word which he bestowed upon Mary; since Allah sent Gabriel to give the glad tidings to Mary, informing her that she is going to have a son. Note: Gabriel the angel (Peace be upon him) is called the Spirit of God. 3- Gabriel blew into Marys garment or shirt and thus she conceived by Allah’s order Be and he was. 4- As a result of Allah’s Word Be Jesus was created. So Jesus is a human being...he is not God, and he is not the Son of God. So Allah is declaring the truth regarding Jesus (Peace be upon him) and He the Almighty is ordering the Christians to repent and to believe in the Oneness of Allah. Also, Christians have to believe in following: Gabriel as an angel sent by Allah to deliver revelations, Jesus and Muhammad (pbut), all being messengers of Allah. Furthermore, Allah is ordering the Christians to quit claiming the great blasphemy. Which is to say: Allah is the third of the three; the Trinity belief. It is better for Christians to desist from committing this major sin (the belief in Trinity) in order to be saved in both this life and the Hereafter. Christians have to recognize this fact: Allah is the Only One True God. No other God deserves worship except Him. There is none coequal or comparable to Him. Exalted and Glory be to Allah above having a son. Exalted and Glory be to Allah above having a companion [i.e., wife]
