The Mental Health Action Trust (MHAT) is a Not-for-Profit - TopicsExpress

The Mental Health Action Trust (MHAT) is a Not-for-Profit organisation that provides free, comprehensive, community-based, volunteer-led, cost-effective mental health care to the poorest people of the localities they serve, including the wandering homeless mentally ill. It aims to provide long term management of chronic mental disorders through a system of community-owned and managed care, supervised and run by MHAT. MHAT is registered as a Charitable Trust (Registration no: 335/2010, Calicut, Kerala, India) with its headquarters at the Institute of Palliative Medicine, Medical College, Calicut, Kerala. The Institute of Palliative Medicine is a World Health Organisation (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Community Participation in Palliative Care and Long Term Care. A recent FB post from Dr.Jyothi Arayambath Mental Health Action Trust (MHAT): MHAT needs about 3 Lakhs Indian rupees (3000 pounds) roughly to run its services a month. The beneficiaries are more than 2200 poor patients with severe mental illness, and the numbers of the clinics and patients are growing. As a community psychiatric service, the logistics of a team going from place to place adds up to the expenses in a big way. More over we are in the process of making a very modest building for our institute of community mental health. It is a huge undertaking and we do not have any major funders even after 6 years of service. Most of the time, we struggle to pay the salaries of our staff and this group therefore is a small attempt to help and support MHAT. It is sad to notice the propaganda that MHAT is getting enough money which I think would dissuade people from helping. I fully understand that people have causes and passions they can associate with and helping poor mentally ill may not be one of your favoured cause, but even if you are not able to help directly, please help spread the message. It is very important that this organisation does not perish due to lack of funds!! mhatkerala.org Dear friends, please support this move for a noble cause!
