The Miami-Dade Anti-Gang Strategy in partnership with the Miami-Dade Public Housing and Community Development Department, State Attorney’s Office, and Public Defender’s Office, has embarked on a transformation project with the residents of New Haven Gardens Public Housing Community in Little Haiti. We will assist the children and families there to develop a community garden and we invite you to be a part of the planning. On Thursday, November 20th at 12:00 noon we will meet with residents at New Haven Gardens, 7200 NE 2nd Ave., Little Haiti to develop an implementation plan for a community garden. Master horticulturist Benjamin Thacker will also be on hand to provide technical assistance. This transformative effort was born out of the August 25, 2014 Walking One Stop that was dispatched to New Haven Gardens in response to violent gun-related incident. As a result of that Walking One Stop and subsequent follow up, the community garden project emerged and, perhaps even more impactful, has served as a catalyst for the residents bonding together to form their own tenant council. Please join us on November 20th and be a part of transforming New Haven Gardens. To confirm your participation, RSVP to wayne@waynerawlins by Wednesday, November 19th at 5:00 p.m.
