The Miniature Train at Soden’s Grove Emporia Kansas The miniature train at Soden’s Grove Park arrived in Emporia Kansas in August of 1958. It was on display at the intersection of 6th and Commercial. Since its dedication in Soden’s Grove, the train has become a popular stop for families for generations. In 1987 The Early Bird Optimist Club took over operations. The Sundowner Lions Club raised funds and built the Depot. In October 2001 the Emporia Sertoma Club took over operations of the train and a new tunnel was built. A new brick loading platform was also built and as part of this feature is the opportunity to help sustain the operations of the train by purchasing a personalized brick for $25.00. In 2007 the train was completely rebuilt. It was converted to electric generator and electric motor drive. This is just like the real engines. The Miniature Train runs for 3 evenings a week from June thru September. It also runs for special events such as the Halloween Express and for other fundraising events. The train is available for private parties.
