The Minister of Education; Ruqayyatu Ahmed Rufai has visited the surviving NANS leadership members who were involved in an auto accident on their way to the University of Uyo to resolve the crisis that led to the death of some students, reiterating the Federal Government’s commitment at ensuring the welfare of Nigerian students. The minister, who visited the recuperating accident victims in the Federal Medical Centre in Umuahia, assured the victims of getting assistance from the Federal Government, promising to cater for the burial of the deceased NANs leadership and other needs that may arise. She extended the President’s heartfelt condolence to the family of the deceased students. The ghastly motor accident which occurred on the 13th of June 2013 along Ariam-Ikwuano Road claimed about five lives including the NANS President; Donald Onukaogu. The survivors took time out to thank both the Federal and the State government for all the assistance rendered to them, assuring Nigerian students in the process that all is well while pleading for those in authority to ensure proper road infrastructure in the South East. The Minister of Education was accompanied by the Executive Secretary, Nigerian University Commission, Professor Julius Okojie and other members of minister’s entourage as well as the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Sir Emeka Ananaba on the visit.
