The Mist She swept clear the film of mist that had settled on - TopicsExpress

The Mist She swept clear the film of mist that had settled on the window. And just like that, she was roused out of the blurry magical world outside the bus and thrust into razor- sharp, high-definition reality. The light from the neon signs that earlier meandered through and formed light, fluffy halos on the glass now emerged sharply and lit up the tea stall at the corner - marking the point in her journey two stops away from the destination. She got down right there, deployed her red umbrella and walked the rest of the way home. That was when the cold fog outside rendered her glasses moist and of course, useless. She plucked them off and returned them to the safe warmth of the case. And the foggy mystical world was back again. Street lamps flanked by palms lit up the side walks in an ominous verdant haze, shadows loomed tall and dark as fortresses and the tea kettle on the fire turned into a steamy cauldron spewing magic potions. She peered at this new world and took it all in, with a new fondness for her ability to block out a bit of the world and select parts of the scenery to spend her precious focus on. She trudged on slowly to glean and make note of the new wonders that sprouted on the way back home. Across the road, the man at the tea stall wondered what the woman with the red umbrella was staring at. She was walking away slowly but her eyes were still focused on his shop. He wondered if he had forgotten to return the change the last time she was here.
