The Monroe Police Department is investigating a string of residential burglaries that occurred this past week. One of the burglaries was to an occupied residence and all of the others were unoccupied at the time. These burglaries are located throughout the village, not in the same developments. A resident also called the police after seeing a person standing on their back deck at night but the person fled before the police arrived. Residents are encouraged to keep all doors and windows locked, be vigilant and call the Monroe Police if you see something you think is suspicious. Homeowners should use outdoor lighting at night, especially motion sensor lights. Burglar alarms should also be installed and some insurance companies give discounts to your homeowners insurance if you install an alarm. Surveillance video not only acts as a deterrent, it also provides evidence to the police to locate and arrest the person committing the burglary. The initial expense you make to safeguard your home does not compare to the expense of your stolen property including family heirlooms and other valuables that you may never recover. Report all suspicious activity to the police.
