The Month that was, December 2014. UN Secretary General praised health workers battling Ebola During his trip to Sierra Leone on 19 December 2014, the United Nation’s Secretary General Ban Ki-moon met UN staff working in Sierra Leone. Ban Ki-moon praised health workers and UN staff working in the Ebola affected countries for their role in the fight against Ebola. “Thank you for your dedication and service. You are making the utmost sacrifice, and you are the best cases of UN service to humanity,” Ban Ki-moon said. He added that the situation in Sierra Leone is worrisome, and staff have to do more to bring the spread of Ebola to an end. According to the Secretary General, the purpose of the visit was to show UN’s strong solidarity with the people and Government of Sierra Leone, and to express its commitment to partners who are battling Ebola in the region. The UN Secretary General led a high-team delegation which includes Dr. Margaret Chan, Director-General of the World Health Organization, Dr. David Nabarro, UN System Senior Coordinator for Ebola and Anthony Banbury, UNMEER Chief.
