The Montreal school boards making this choice are failing to teach the right lessons. They are failing to give their students an opportunity of a lifetime. Now is the BEST time for their students to come to Canadas National Memorial, along with thousands of Canadians paying homage to courage and sacrifice. Because it will take a bit of courage. They rob their students of the opportunity to feel the courage of others who will show up despite the potential threat. They rob their students of the ability to analyze and understand that security will actually be better at this time and place than most other public gatherings anywhere. And they rob their students of the ability to decide to go or not, and demonstrate their own courage, OR NOT. Because each student or family can decide not to get on their busses, OR NOT. One board says its just for this year. They plan to commemorate, but to stay out of sight. They are teaching overcaution. They are teaching FEAR. They are encouraging their students to minimize public exposure when commemorating courage. They are teaching NOT to come out until OTHERS SHOW IT IS SAFE. They have set themselves up as a PERFECT EXAMPLE OF WHAT NOT TO DO. Because terrorists want their victims to act this way. Because terrorists go after the weak and scared. They dont confront the strong. Whos to say the boards are not exposing their students anyway, because they become a target for a sick mind that wants to show he can get at them anyway. These boards get failing grades. These boards should reverse their bureaucratic, ass-covering decision. Or they should step down for being a bad example Canadian.
