The Mourning period in Islam is 3 days , because it was simply before Islam one year . They used to cry , tear clothes , slap faces , live and sleep in a tight dirty place with no washing or showering , poor feeding and complete abandon of all regular aspects of life . That waS MEANT MAINLY FOR WOMEN . AFTER THE PROPHET MOHAMMED CAME , Then it was clearly defined that the MOURN is 3 days only , except for a wife after the death of her husband , in that case it has to be 4 months and 10 days. It is intended to have clear proof either the lady is pregnant or not and not to have any confusion with Genealogy . The console should not be forwarded after those 3 days in all the cases even for the woman who became a widow , but she remains unmarried for 4 months and 10 days or till she deliver her baby if she was pregnant . We have a very common proverb in Egypt that says : Those who introduce condolences after 1 year are just renewing the sadness . Life has to continue . So , I am back
