The NCR Schoolhouse was built at 1350 South Main Street in 1912. The distinctive 30-foot columns were added in 1913. Once known as “the powerhouse for brains” it was the center of activity for NCR employees who needed a large hall, whether it was for sales conventions, educational lectures or night classes. A large number of NCR employees would watch movies at the NCR Schoolhouse during their lunch break. Two full-length movies were shown each week. In the 1920s John H. Patterson began the tradition of hosting “children’s meetings” on Saturday mornings, which consisted of free cartoons and motion pictures. NCR also held an annual Christmas party where children would be given small presents of candy. Later renamed the NCR Auditorium, the building was razed in 1980.
