The NPP has a very stark and pressing choice before it. Its election of new executives is a gesture to our Republics future. I am not among those who think that our political parties do not matter in the destiny of our great Republic. Those who raise such a din misread history and the system of government and policy formation we have freely and voluntarily as bona fide citizens chosen for our selves. In that crucial sense and at this critical juncture of our Republics life where the ship of state seems rudderless as it is buffeted by the storms of indecision, immaturity and plain theft the NPP as the largest most organized political force holds out the greatest possibility for changing the course of this Republics slide to ignominy. It must be made to realize this and step up to its destiny or rue it eternally. The delegates need to elect a WINNING TEAM for 2016. That team must understand the urgency of the national task of transformation before us and the seamless ways in which this task is tied to our very SURVIVAL as a people. The world has changed in blinding ways. Global economic power has shifted to the East. New industries have emerged and with them novel technologies. Competition in the global economic and trade environment is pitiless and intense: the weak is blown away. The African Renaissance that glowed blindingly in this our Republic flickered, ebbed , waned and has almost died out : it must be lit again. Africa today remains the weakest continent in terms of global power and her countries lie at the bottom of the power pecking order. This has been the story in the last five hundred years. A fresh century offers glittering hope for any African country that dares to dream and can just have the grit and strategic capacity to out think and outmaneuver a skeptical and dismissive world. Where should our Republic go after 2016? What are her doable and achievable options? Who should be her key international allies as she seeks to rapidly transform? These are some of the formidable questions that the new executives must be able to conceive and respond to; otherwise it is another ritual; a sheer waste of time. Our major political parties have proved capable of winning power but grossly incapable of using it for far reaching national transformation tasks under this Fourth Republic. One of these parties must break this stultifying jinx that has left the masses of our people, indigent, hopeless and without dignity. The delegates must ponder these questions and vote for Ghanas tomorrow and the future of a continent waiting for a Ghana that will once again find her voice and confidence and show the way. Never has it been so possible to realize our most cherished dreams like the times in which we live which we must seize while we have breath and life and as the geo-political and geo-economic realities make supremely possible. The new executives will provide the arrow head for 2016. If the delegates chose a listless, squabbling, provincially minded, huckster minded, money conscious, faction entrenching, visionless, anti-new ideas and thoughts, ideologically inebriated and hopelessly clannish bunch winning power in 2016 will be a mirage. And finally delegates must elect executives who understand what lies on the road administratively and politically to winning power in post Election 2012 Ghana : the DYNAMICS HAVE CHANGED. LET TOMORROW COME. As a citizen interested deeply to the pits of my soul, mind and body in Ghanas triumph over her shame and backwardness I watch the events in Tamale closely. God Bless our most beloved Republic! #notesofapatriot
