The NYU community is deeply saddened by the sudden and tragic death of Jackie Haeflinger, a cherished member of the University Events office, university spokesman John Beckman said. For those of us involved in the Universitys major events — convocations, commencements, visits by heads of state — her absence will be keenly felt. Her family and loved ones are in our prayers. Beckman praised her professionalism and said that she was popular with her co-workers. She was a devoted, longtime member of the NYU community whom many of us — myself included — knew well and admired for not only her hard work and exacting standards but for her commitment to make every NYU event warm, gracious, and memorable for students, families, and faculty, he said. Im still in shock. Would prefer not to engage over this. Just putting it up here in memory of Jackie, a wonderful person and excellent colleague. She got her dear Violet about the same time I got my Hershey. RIP, Jackie, you will be sorely missed. Her last breath was given in such a selfless act; she loved her Vi. In news comments threads, she is getting a lot of grief over it, but Id like to think I would have done the same thing. People can be so cruel. And this is so incredibly sad.
