The National Democratic Congress and President John Dramani Mahama - TopicsExpress

The National Democratic Congress and President John Dramani Mahama ought to be very greatful for the continuous support they have been receiving from the Volta Region despite the lack of developmental projects that we are facing as a region. The NDC can say they would still win majority votes in the region but that majority is gradually reducing and if care is not taken, the NDC might lose one day soon in the region. The majority of the elderly in the Volta Region see the NDC as a paternal property just because the founder hailed from the region and gave us a strong sense of belonging to Ghana. We used to be called TransVolta Togoland and the emergence of a son #JJRawlings from the region to become President was a sign of pride and inclusiveness. So for this reason our fathers, Mothers and grand and great grandparents were die hard NDC supporters. But then this is gradually changing and if serious care is not taken we may surprise the party in a way they would never ever expect. The young voltarian is different from the elderly educated or uneducated voltarian. Most of us have had the opportunity to travel out of the region to schools elsewhere and for employments and even National service and have seen how massive developmental projects are going on elsewhere. This is causing the Young Voltarian to become agitated and angry wih the way the party they keep working hard for to come to power is treating them. The #road networks through the region is very very bad. #Hohoe for example is a tourist hub but then the road leading to Hohoe is in a very very bad state. Very few towns can boast of good drinking water. There is no clean and hygienic KVIPs or toilet facilities and #Ho for example which is the capital city of the region has all its public toilets stinking like rotten skunk. Employment opportunities are not in the region at all and all the youths would have to travel out to get a descent employment. There are very few government initiated industrial projects if not none, and so the youths who dont get the opportunity to travel out of the region end up becoming unemployed, broke and frustrated hence some resort to drinking and even criminal activities to survive. Volta region is the only reason why the NDC can boast of having been the longest serving political party. But Volta has nothing to show for it. We are just being treated like fools that are better of being given fish rather than taught how to fish. When it remains a year to election then they begin projects which is halted immediately after elections. Our Chiefs are constantly bribed by this greedy NDC politicians to convince the populace to vote for them without fulfilling none of the promises they make before the elections. I beg somebody to tell Johnson asiedu nketia that he needs to get serious with how they are treating we voltarians especially we the youths. He needs to organize the MPs we have selected and make them sit up or else they may have themselves to blame soon. Jerry John Rawlings won constantly because he was from the region and we voted constantly out of tribalism. Now that is changing since the NPP now has discerning citizens as their members who hail from the region. So the NDC party needs to sit up now before the next general elections in 2016 or else their votes may drastically reduce. Our MPs are the biggest problem we have. Mine in Akatsi, Volta Region, Ghana seems to be helping deepen the woes of the NDC. He replaced the current Speaker of Parliament Hon. Edward Doe Adjaho and we all had high hopes for him just to regret it a lot. And his lackadaisical behavior towards development can cause the party a lot in the next elections. So my message is simple to the ruling NDC party under John Mahama. Get serious with how you are treating the people of Volta Region. Create job opportunities for the youths. Help boost the tourist sites in the region especially Hohoe that has over 5 significant tourist sites. Empower of Chiefs to help the work of the local government and police. Get our MPs to be supervising projects and not only driving V8s and showing off at funerals. Our road construction projects must be a priority. We need a harbor in Keta, be it fishing or shipping, just any kind of harbor to provide employment and make use of the natural resource there. We can produce salt because we have the natural resource used in salt production so we need the government to invest in it. Agriculture is our major employment avenue so the government needs to get creative and industrialize Agriculture as in setting up Gari factories because we have cassava, rice factories and even sugar factory since sugarcane grows well in some parts of Volta. We truly need an industrial revolution in the Volta Region and I know the government can do that if they decide to. I hope this few would be a start to help induce voltarians to renew their trust in the NDC Party. I sincerely hope Mahama Ayariga who is the Minister of Youth and Sports would relay this message to the President. Volta is the NDCs world-bank, so they need to treat us like a world bank. I do salute Ras Mubarak and would be glad if he can use his creativity and innovative nature at the National Youth Authority to help we the Youths in the Volta Region. I pray the NDC sees the need to give back to the people of Volta, as much love as we have given them over the years. God bless NDC, God bless Volta, God bless Ghana.
