The National Resistance Movement (NRM) is ready for the 2016 general elections, President Yoweri Museveni who is also the party national chairman has announced. The President was responding to a question during an interview with the Vatican Radio on a programme hosted by journalist John Baptist Tumusiime. The president while in Italy, said his party has done a lot for the people of Uganda and what is remaining is to sensitize the people on exploiting what has been achieved so far to fight poverty. Quoting from the Bible, the President pointed out that what the voters want is the deeds and fruits of the party not those who only talk and criticize. The president said that the NRM has worked very well on the infrastructure development, peace and security of the people, food security, health and education. “What is remaining, what we shall do in 2O16 is to explain these deeds and fruits to the people what we call mobilization on household transformation,” he said. President Museveni defended Ugandas Military involvement in Somalia saying that it has served two main purposes. The President, who is also commander in chief, said the first objective to ensure peace in Somalia and also the people in East Africa can benefit from the peaceful Somalia. Museveni explained that most of what used to be insecure areas in the war torn country have been liberated and also the terrorists have been denied the opportunity of using the country to plan and spread terrorism activities. On his meeting with Pope Francis, Museveni told Radio Vatican that he had earlier written an invitation letter to the Pope and that following his meeting today with the Pope, the Vatican will issue an official statement over the matter. On the FAO report which praised Uganda for achieving self food reliance, Museveni said that Ugandans have a culture of producing their own food. President also addressed Ugandans working and living in Italy. The meeting took place at Rome Cavallieri Hotel. The President appealed to them to always link up with Uganda and urged them to invest in their country. He said that some areas which require small capitalization were still available in Uganda and gave the examples of small processing industries like fruit processing, grain milling, mixing animal and chicken feeds and construction.
