The National Weather Service, Anchorage, has issued a special weather statement calling for colder than normal temperatures throughout much of south central Alaska, including the Mat-Su, where some places could see the thermometer dip into the 20s overnight ... and possibly see snow. Arctic air is expected to move in behind the current storm system, with the cold air flowing into the northern Susitna Valley Friday night, possibly bringing light snow and temperatures in the mid- to upper-30s. The precipitation and clouds should clear out late Friday night and through Saturday, but temperatures are supposed to drop even lower on Sunday morning, hitting the upper 20s. Those planning to enjoy the Labor Day weekend outdoors should plan for the cooler temperatures and pack accordingly.
