The National Weather Service in St. Louis has issued an Elevated Fire Danger alert for today. Ground cover is extremely dry...grass, leaves and other vegetation will ignite easily. Please hold off on any outdoor burning until conditions improve. During yesterdays Elevated Fire Danger Alert, Lincoln County Firefighters responded to a total of 19 calls with 10 of those being natural cover fires. Two were residential structure fires with one resulting from outdoor burning. Outdoor burning, even in a container such as a barrel can ignite a fire when wind blown embers contact the dry vegetation. Lincoln County Fire has not issued an official burn ban. However, it is strongly recommended to hold off on any outdoor burning until ground cover conditions improve.
