The National Weather Service says that the damage in Lincoln and Copiah counties during Friday morning was caused by straightline winds of 70 to 80 mph. It was not a tornado, but straightline winds can be just as bad. Straightline winds produce damage that faces the same direction, for example the trees that fell could all be pointing SE. While a tornado signature is for trees and damage to be thrown about randomly and debris is twisted around, a tree for example.
