The Netherlands is a country of designers, in fact the country itself is for the most part a man-made design. Topographical and social circumstances in the Netherlands, such as the presence of large areas of water, the focus on sustainability and the lack of living space, have led to innovative architectural solutions. Dutch architecture is influenced by the lack of space, the regard for sustainability, the increasing influence of users and the problems associated with water. Dutch architects are renowned worldwide for their social engagement, use of innovative materials and sustainability. The most famous contemporary Dutch architect is Rem Koolhaas. He is the founder of the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) and has received commissions for prestigious projects around the world, such as the new building for the Chinese state broadcaster CCTV in Beijing. But there are many more renowned Dutch architects. Can you name some of them?
