The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) Utica Regional Office has issued the following traveler advisory for motorists in Town of Schuyler, Herkimer County: On Monday, October 20, and Tuesday October 21, 2014 motorist traveling on Route 5 eastbound ramp to Route 51 south/Ilion will encounter a lane reduction on the ramp due to bridge maintenance work. Beginning Wednesday, October 22, the ramp will be close for approximately 2 weeks. Message boards will direct motorists to an alternate route. Signed detour will be utilized to advise motorists of the ramp closure and direct traffic to the appropriate detour route. Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver’s license.
