The No1 song in the US and the UK on this day, September 17th - TopicsExpress

The No1 song in the US and the UK on this day, September 17th 2011, was Someone Like You by Adele, from her 2nd album, 21. Adele told the British newspaper, The Sun, Its simple, just letting go. Its my most articulate song. I think thats why I like it so much. Its just so honest, no glitter on it. The lyrics refer, like most of the album, to Adele working through the ending of a relationship. When she first performed it on TV she was hoping her ex was watching and it made her cry during the taping. Adele wrote this with former Semisonics frontman Dan Wilson, who had previously written with the Dixie Chicks and Josh Groban. It was the first ballad to top Billboard charts since Rihannas Take A Bow in May 2008. 21 was the first album ever to sell more than 3 million copies in the UK in a single calendar year and has eclipsed Sgt Pepper, Thriller and Dark Side of the Moon in the UK in album sales. The single was also the first piano and vocal single to top the Billboard Hot 100 since it started in 1957. Scientists have studied this song to find out why it creates such an emotion in its listeners. Heres the black and white video to Someone Like You.....Enjoy!
