The North American B-45 Tornado and Ilyushin Il-28 Beagle hold many distinctions in military aviation history – both aircraft were designed during the Second World War and became the first jet-powered bombers to enter service with their respective air forces (the B-45 also became the first aircraft to feature aerial refueling capability). Both aircraft saw extensive service, especially the Beagle, which served the Red Air Force till the early 1980s. Though, not 100 percent comparable, we did toss them together to see how these two early birds compare. Btw today marks the 67th anniversary of B-45’s first flight.
