The North Dakota State Council on Developmental Disabilities will award four grants of up to $1,000 each to local groups that develop and sponsor activities associated with Disability Mentoring Day. During Disability Mentoring Day is a nationwide effort to promote career development for students with disabilities through hands-on career exploration. Students with disabilities are matched with workplace mentors based on expressed career interests. These mentees experience a typical day on the job and learn how to prepare to enter the world of work. Employers gain an increased awareness that people with disabilities represent an overlooked talent pool. Each applicant is required to contribute to the project a minimum of a 30 percent total project cost match, either with cash, in-kind or state funds. Sources for cash and in-kind match may not be federal dollars or included as match for another federal grant award. Sources for match must be necessary and reasonable to conduct the project. Get more information about this national event at the American Association of People with Disabilities special website page: aapd/what-we-do/employment/disability-mentoring-day/ Aug. 15 is the 2014 deadline to apply for these funds.
