The Northern California Walking Horse Association is hosting two - TopicsExpress

The Northern California Walking Horse Association is hosting two fun events this weekend, a schooling show at the Penn Valley Rodeo Grounds on Sat., 9/27 and a quiz hike and ride at Blue Point Mine in Smartsville on Sun., 9/28. All proceeds will be used to fund the clubs campaign to end the soring abuse of the Tennessee Walking Horse. The rain tomorrow is expected to clear the smoke away for the festivities. HORSE SHOW, DANCERS, DINNER AND LIVE MUSIC ON SATURDAY: After the horse show, A $15 BBQ dinner will be served, followed by a performance of my very own dance troupe, Blue Oasis Belly Dance. Then, wonderful local band, Mountain Shine, will perform live music for you. Form a team of from 3-8 riders or hikers and join us for the fun. If you dont have a team, we will add you to one. If you just want to hike or ride and the course and not compete, you can do that as well. For those Smarty Pants contenders, this is what you can expect: The first test will take place before each team departs, and each team will be judged by a panel on its team spirit, which is broadly defined. Anything that is not a hazard to public safety is acceptable. I expect costumes, and possibly poems or songs. Let your inner ham flourish. Please note that you may elect not to wear your costume on the hike or ride that follows. I know that my own costumes on horseback have not always been comfortable or safe, but you make that decision for yourselves. If you dont want to dress up and be goofy, thats fine, too! You will then hike or ride to four stations along the trail, where subject matter experts will ask you five questions. Each station will have a different category or theme. The folks manning the stations have been instructed not to provide hints or info about how other teams have performed. They will resist any attempts to bribe or blackmail them. They are going to stay strong for the horses! You may not use outside sources or electronic devices to answer questions. For an extra amount of money at each station a team may buy an extra sixth question for $10, which will be collected at the end. After all, this is a fundraiser! The location is Blue Point Mine, 8531 Smartsville Rd in Smartsville, which is off Hwy 20. The $39 registration fee per participant includes lunch. We have to order lunches, so please register as soon as possible. Please join us in the fun and help end soring of the Tennessee Walking Horse. All proceeds will be used to fund efforts of the Northern California Walking Horse Association to eliminate soring of theTennessee Walking Horse.
