The Northern Cultivation Schemes affected by rain impediment One of the cultivation scheme youth group The City Flora Youth Project (CFProject) in Omusati region, Outapi constituency is extremely get shocked due to the rain delay to crash, because the above youth group they depend or survive in the cultivation scheme funds from the community farmers. According to the Coordinator of cultivation scheme Mr. Petrus Daniel originally from Outapi constituency, Okatanyange village, analysis that their income dropping down due lack tender for cultivation because the soil is very dry, nothing in the field for community farmer to offer them tender to cultivate. This is the first time to experience this kind of incident since we embark-upon in cultivation scheme program 2010 under Ministry of Agriculture water & forest. This program of cultivation its help the youth to gain some extra money to satisfy their needs and help their family in terms of empower job creation , instead of youth staying home doing nothing and end up committed to peer group, involve in violence and intoxicated particularly grade 10 & 12 failure who didn’t continue revive their educational background. The cultivation schemes also support the community farmers to get good yield after their harvest because we offered practically fully attention to the crops by thinning, pest control and weeding procedurally satisfying them. Therefore we are totally suffered by rain delay. Usually we use to start cultivation by December, compare to this year no Bread for us at all, imagine in February but not yet even five hectors cultivated as I said the soil is dry without any crops and some of farmers didn’t yet start ploughing the situation is made even worse, due to climate changes I encourage the farmers to use modern farming conservation methods to adapted for difficult farming conditions in Namibia example by participating Conservation Tillage Program successfully introduced to developed specific technology of ripper/furrowing, before rain to encourage moisture and fertility buildup and they must also participate on-farm trials workshop demonstration on how to apply manure in furrows prior planting. Currently its already indicate that the results of harvest will be gradual build up of a perfect environment for crop growth and I encourage the farmer to practice crop rotation with legumes and to retain the crop residues on the land as a start on soil reclamation, because is too late to manage the whole field of five to seven hectors this time. Finally even we are affected by rain delay we hope to God will help us the rain to come and I request pastor and individual to made pray alliance of rain, anyhow I expecting rain to come the first week of march will be boosting farmers. Any Organisation/ individual ready to assist the above project with any, they are welcome to contact the coordinator. “We never give-up we will continue empower and empower cultivation scheme in our region” Assemble by MR.
