The November 1966 photo shows an MCC doubleheader on a dreary, afternoon running across the quiet country lane that leads to the Fernwood Country Club, which was known to the locals as Dockrell. In the photo you can see some of the putting greens on both sides of the track, as well as the solitary wooden crossbuck. A wooden electric power line runs alongside the right-of-way on the left side of the scene. Today I shot my present-day photo from nearly the same vantage point as the photographer who took the MCC view did nearly half-a-century ago. The M&E main now sleeps beneath a mantle of green. While the rails are still in place... as they are through the crossing itself, the crossties are virtually non-existent. Large trees form a tunnel of sorts along the route. The wooden poles for the power lines are long gone, as is the crossbuck, and even the country club itself. Dockrell closed up for good in 2011, and Nature is taking back the surroundings.
