The Other Woman: Let me start off by saying this is not the type of movie I usually watch. I swear. When I initially heard of this movie I thought, Well, Im never going to watch that. But one thing led to another and then last Sunday I ended sitting in a theater with this movie playing in front of me. I should have listened to myself. The Other Woman is a female revenge story, but not the good type, actually not even the well-made type. If you want to watch a revenge story centered around a woman protagonist, I recommend Kill Bill. And really Kill Bill will probably give you more laughs as well. The plot revolves around a jackass husband who is cheating on his wife, with not one, not two, but three women. The wife discovers this and to get back at her husband, she forms a couple of weird friendships with his mistresses, who all find out theyve been lied to and agree on a plan to ruin his life Lets start off with the good. Leslie Mann. Mann was the only enjoyable part of this movie. The script lent her nothing, yet she improvved a couple scenes that led to some of the few laughs I had. Scenes would play out boring and by the script, then she would go off and have fun with herself and overact just the right amount and I found that enjoyable. If only she had other talent to work with. Mann shared starring roles with Cameron Diaz. They have nice chemistry and they worked well with each other. Early on some sweet bonding moments between their characters worked very well but then a third woman was introduced. Kate Upton. I dont remember her characters name and I dont have to, because she had no character, she was described as the boobs and there is nothing more to her than that. She may have been nice to look at but she was an eye sore during moments of sweet sentimentality between Diaz and Mann. There they are bonding and there she is blankly staring at them with a low cut shirt. [SPOILERS] The final scene in this movie is one I must talk about. Of course he gets found out, but its done so brutally and over the top that it sucked the enjoyment out of me. I wanted to see the guy go down hard but I didnt want his face to be destroyed, his testicles crushed, his car impounded, and his whole life (work and love) completely destroyed. Or maybe I did want to see that, but not in the way it was presented. [END SPOILERS] That was the problem with this movie, like all comedies it was unbelievable, but this one was so far over the top, I couldnt stand it. All the while I was wondering why Nick Cassavettes, son of the brilliant independent director John Cassavettes, would take this script? His extremely talented dad would have never taken this job. I guess great directing isnt a generational thing. I highly recommend you check out older Cassavettes work and just ignore his sons. 3.1/10
