The Pacific Highway is now closed in both directions between Hexham Bridge and Richardson Road due to a bushfire that continues to burn in the area. Motorists are advised to avoid all non-essential travel north of Newcastle. Motorists needing to travel on the Pacific Highway can use the New England Highway, Raymond Terrace Road, Adelaide Street and Richardson Road, however this diversion is not suitable for B-doubles. Additionally, Nelson Bay Road is closed between Vardon Road in Fern Bay and Richardson Road in Salt Ash. Motorists are also advised to avoid Maitland Road and Industrial Drive as traffic is very heavy, and use Newcastle Road and the M1 Pacific Motorway as an alternative route instead. In Heatherbrae, Tomago and Williamtown, the following roads remain closed: • Masonite Road, between Archibald Place and Cabbage Tree Road. • Tomago Road, between Old Punt Road and Masonite Road. • Cabbage Tree Road, between Masonite Road and Nelson Bay Road.
