The Pamban Bridge is a cantilever bridge on the Palk Strait which connects Rameswaram,Tamilnadu on Pamban Island to mainland India. This engineering marvel, which was opened to public on 24 Feb 1914, has withstood worlds second highly corrosive environment, and a cyclone-prone high wind velocity zone for a century. The railway bridge is 6,776 ft and it has a double-leaf bascule bridge section that can be raised to let ships pass under the bridge.
