The Paradigm for Black Struggle © By Alton H. Maddox, Jr. September 3, 2014 An attorney may decide to engage in the solo practice of law or to establish a major law firm. Black lawyers have failed to establish a single law firm in New York City or a single, political party in the United States. There are over twenty-five law firms with at least two hundred lawyers in New York City and myriad political parties in the United States. **HELP explains not only the lack of Black law firms, but also the lack of Black political parties. **HELP is an acronym for History, Ethics, Logic and Philosophy. Blacks have failed to master any of these disciplines. White lawyers trained Black lawyers without mentioning **HELP. Today, most Black lawyers are graduated from white law schools. A competent Black lawyer must have the equivalent of a baccalaureate degree in Black history; the equivalent of a masters degree in legal history and a doctorate degree in military science. They must have a minor degree in communications and a minor degree in economics. These are the minimum qualifications to represent Black defendants competently and zealously. Stated differently, the Hon. Elijah Muhammad stated that the white man would never teach the Black man the science of mating; the science of business; and the science of war. Thus, Black lawyers have no presence in courtrooms even though courtrooms should be their bailiwicks. Charles Hamilton Houston must be turning over in his grave. The paradigm for Black struggle was established in Montgomery, AL in 1955. It started with Rosa Parks being trained at the Highlander Folk School in Tennessee; Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. led the Montgomery Bus Boycott and attorney Fred Gray led the litigation in Browder v. Garner which led to tumbling the walls of Jim Crow in public accommodations. Jim Crow still exists in the nations judicial system. There must be a political voice and not a sharecropping arrangement in the Black community. The Freedom Party must learn that war is 24/7. It requires persons with profound political consciousness and an unbending commitment to the race. A thorough understanding of **HELP is critical. The centerpiece of **HELP is ethics which is the glue that binds a race. Religion, on the other hand, is one-on-one. **Black lawyers, ministers and imams must come together tonight, Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at Brooklyn Christian Center, 1061 Atlantic Avenue (bet. Classon and Franklin) in Brooklyn. Take the C train to Franklin Avenue.
